What makes the villas at Wild Grass special is not simply their size, their private pools or their setting. It is the amount of space they give you from everything else.There are just eight villas scattered across 25 acres of forest near Sigiriya, positioned in natural clearings rather than carving the landscape up to accommodate them. But the measurements only explain part of it.Wild Grass is at its best early in the morning, or towards dusk, when the forest becomes the reason you came. Monkeys move through the trees, peacocks call somewhere beyond the villa and deer, wild boar, rabbits and more than 40 species of birds share the surrounding land. Occasionally, even wild elephants pass through the unfenced property. This is not a landscaped resort designed to resemble wilderness. The wilderness was here first, and the villas were built around it.That distinction is what makes Wild Grass one of the most special places to stay around Sigiriya. Many hotels can offer a beautiful room or a swimming pool. Far fewer can give you the feeling of having a small piece of Sri Lanka's dry-zone forest almost entirely to yourself — while keeping Sigiriya Rock and Dambulla within easy reach.The luxury here is ultimately not excess. It is privacy, space and the rare pleasure of waking up somewhere that still feels genuinely wild.
